✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This small rug was hand-knotted in Turkey and dates to the mid-20th century, making it approximately 50 years old. It is woven in the allover floral vine style — a design where slender stems and blossoms wander freely across the entire field, with no central medallion, only continuous, joyful growth from edge to edge.

The ground is a warm, faded terracotta — soft and sun-worn, the color of old clay and autumn earth. Across it, small flowers bloom in lavender, sage green, gold, and cream, each one outlined in fine dark vinework. Years of use have worn the pile low, revealing the weave beneath in places and giving the rug that unmistakable, lived-in vintage character collectors love. The result is a small piece with enormous personality — colorful, warm, and full of quiet detail that rewards a closer look.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The allover floral vine is one of the oldest and most beloved motifs in the Anatolian tradition — a garden without walls, where flowers grow in every direction, unbound and abundant. Unlike a single medallion that draws the eye to one point, the wandering vine invites it to roam, to wander through the blossoms the way one might wander through a real garden in late summer.

Rendered in terracotta, lavender, and green, these are the colors of an Anatolian afternoon — warm earth, wildflowers, and the green of leaves against clay. A weaver who chose this small canvas and filled it edge to edge with flowers was weaving abundance into a modest space — proof that even the smallest rug can hold an entire garden.
