✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This vintage Turkish rug was hand-knotted in the Oushak weaving tradition of western Turkey, known for its soft, muted palettes. The centerpiece is an arch-shaped medallion filled with a fine diamond lattice in dusty sage-grey on an ivory-beige ground, framed by ornate scrolling cartouches. As an area rug it reads calm and neutral — a palette that suits Scandinavian, mid century, and southwestern-inspired interiors alike, and works beautifully as an oriental accent in a modern home. The hand knotted wool pile has softened with age into a warm, lived-in patina typical of pieces 40-60 years old.

✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The arch is one of the most enduring motifs in Anatolian weaving — originally woven into prayer rugs to represent a doorway or direction, later adapted into decorative medallion designs for the home. Framed by hand-drawn scrollwork and a lattice-filled center, this pattern reflects a weaver's balance between symbolism and everyday beauty. Bringing this vintage Turkish rug into your home carries forward a craft tradition passed down through generations of Anatolian women.

🧼 CARE & CLEANING

Vacuum regularly on a low setting without a beater bar, and rotate the rug occasionally for even wear. Blot spills immediately with a clean cloth — do not rub. For deeper cleaning, we recommend a professional rug cleaner experienced with hand-knotted wool.

★★★★★

“Parfait. Patrick Demestre.”
