✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This area rug was hand-knotted in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey, one of the country's most celebrated rug-weaving centers, known for over a century for its dense floral compositions and refined dyeing traditions.

The field is a soft ivory cream, filled with a repeating vertical composition of rose and floral bouquets — large blooming roses, smaller scattered blossoms, and delicate botanical details rendered in dusty blush pink, sage green, and slate blue. The symmetry is elegant and unhurried, each bouquet balanced against the next in a quiet, rhythmic procession. A plain dusty mauve pink border frames the entire field, adding a soft, romantic finish.

The colors carry the gentle, even fading of decades of genuine age — warm ivory deepened with time, blush tones softened to their most beautiful register.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The rose has always held a special place in Anatolian textile tradition — not merely as a decorative motif, but as a symbol of love, beauty, and the divine garden. In Ottoman and classical Turkish weaving, the repeating rose bouquet composition was among the most intimate patterns a weaver could choose: a field of blooms that transformed the floor of a home into a garden in perpetual flower.

This particular piece carries that tradition with unusual softness. The ivory field and dusty pink palette give it a quality of quiet refinement — not the bold abundance of a red-ground rug, but something more personal and restrained, like a garden tended with care rather than planted for display.

Knotted decades ago, this rug still carries that original intimacy — ready to bring the same quiet beauty into your own home.
