✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This area rug was hand-knotted in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey, one of the country's most celebrated rug-weaving centers, known for over a century for its dense floral compositions and refined dyeing traditions.

The field is a warm terracotta orange — rich, aged, and deepened by decades of genuine use — filled edge to edge with an all-over scrolling vine and botanical floral pattern. Curling tendrils, delicate blossoms, and leafy motifs flow across the field in ivory cream and soft slate blue, creating a composition that feels both abundant and unhurried. A wide ivory cream border frames the field, itself filled with a geometric floral band in navy blue — a classic Isparta finishing touch that anchors the warm tones of the interior.

The colors carry the natural, even fading typical of decades of genuine age — terracotta mellowed to its warmest register, navy softened to a distinguished slate.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The all-over scrolling vine and floral field of this rug belongs to one of the oldest traditions in Anatolian weaving — a garden in continuous bloom, brought indoors and spread across the floor so that every corner of the room lives within it. In the Isparta tradition, this dense, all-over composition was a weaver's way of filling her home with abundance and continuity.

The terracotta field gives this particular garden a warm, earthy intimacy — not the cool formality of a blue-ground rug, but the warmth of something deeply lived in, like a garden tended over generations rather than planted for display. The ivory border and navy band complete the composition with quiet authority.

Knotted decades ago, this rug still carries that original warmth — ready to bring the same quiet abundance into your own home.

★★★★★

“Parfait. Patrick Demestre.”
