✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This area rug was hand-knotted in the Isparta region of southwestern Turkey, one of the country's most celebrated rug-weaving centers, known for over a century for its dense compositions and refined dyeing traditions.
The field is a vivid crimson hot pink red — bold, saturated, and still striking after decades of genuine use — structured around a vertical composition of three geometric medallions in cobalt blue and ivory white. Each medallion is distinct in its internal geometry, filled with stepped diamond forms, small floral details, and tribal motifs, yet all three are united by the bold cobalt blue that frames them. Geometric scatter motifs fill the red field around the medallions — small tribal symbols, angular forms, and stylized botanical details that give the entire surface a richly ornamented, busy energy. Navy blue geometric borders run across the top and bottom, adding a structured frame to the bold composition.
The distressing on this rug is real and substantial — decades of genuine use have worn the pile down and softened the colors into something deeply lived-in. This is not a rug that looks artificially aged. It carries its years honestly, and that authenticity is exactly what makes it exceptional.
✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
The triple medallion composition — three vertical medallions aligned along the central axis — is one of the most distinctive formats in the Isparta tribal tradition. Where the single medallion signals formality and symmetry, the triple composition suggests movement, a procession of forms that carries the eye from one end of the rug to the other. In nomadic and tribal weaving traditions, this format was associated with protection and abundance — three times the power of a single medallion, three points of energy anchoring the space.
The crimson field belongs to the oldest and most prestigious tradition in Turkish rug weaving. Red was the color of celebration, of the household's pride, of the weaver's most ambitious work. A crimson triple medallion rug was a statement — and this one, even worn and softened by decades, still makes that statement clearly.

WHERE TO USE IT
A bold statement rug for a living room, bedroom, or entryway. The crimson and navy palette is strong enough to anchor a neutral room entirely on its own. Verified Etsy buyerVerified Etsy purchase ↗“Parfait. Patrick Demestre.”
