This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

This rug was hand-knotted in Turkey and dates to the mid-20th century, making it approximately 50 years old. It is woven in the delicate, all-over floral style that Anatolian workshops perfected — a design where no single medallion dominates, and instead the entire field blooms with small, interlacing flowers.

The ground is a soft cream, warmed throughout by golden ochre and mustard tones, with fine brown outlining that gives the florals their quiet definition. Years of gentle use have faded the pile to a low, smooth finish, so the pattern now reads like a memory of itself — present, but softened by time. The overall effect is warm and understated: a rug that adds texture and history to a room without ever competing with it.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The all-over floral field — flowers scattered edge to edge with no center and no hierarchy — is one of the oldest expressions of abundance in the Anatolian weaving tradition. Rather than a single blossom held up as the focal point, the whole surface is given over to growth, as if to say that beauty need not be concentrated to be complete.

Rendered here in cream and gold, these are the colors of wheat fields, of late summer light, of harvest. A weaver who chose this warm, golden palette was weaving a rug of quiet plenty — one meant to bring the calm of a sunlit room into the home, underfoot, every day.
