✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey. Each semicircle is individually cut from an authentic hand-knotted Turkish carpet, carefully washed and restored, and finished with durable edging.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This rug looks like a painting that time has been working on for decades.

The upper curved portion of the half moon is ivory cream — almost white, light and quiet. As the eye moves downward, the composition gradually fills: a dense all-over botanical floral and vine composition emerges in warm taupe, soft brown, and dusty rose and blush tones, layer upon layer of botanical detail rendered in tones so close to one another that the pattern dissolves and reforms as the light changes. At the lower edge, a delicate dotted border detail runs across the width — a quiet finishing touch that reveals the refined weaving from which this piece was cut.

The surface is extremely heavily worn — the pile is very low, the colors are at their most faded and most beautiful, and the overall effect is that of something between a textile and a watercolor. Wabi-sabi in its truest sense: the beauty of impermanence, of use, of honest aging.

- Romantic or cottagecore interior — soft taupe and blush
