✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG

This rug was woven by a woman.

Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.

We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.

First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.

What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.

You will never find another exactly like it.

✦ ABOUT THIS RUG

This runner was cut from the central field of a larger vintage Isparta carpet — a traditional practice that gives the most densely woven, most carefully worked section of the rug a new life as a standalone piece. What you receive is the heart of the original rug: the full-field composition, freed from its border frame, in a long narrow format perfect for hallways, stairs, and kitchens.

The field is a rich crimson raspberry red, covered edge to edge with a dense all-over scrolling vine and botanical floral composition. Delicate tendrils, small blossoms, and leaf clusters fill every corner of the field in teal blue, navy, and ivory tones, creating a surface that rewards close looking — there is always more detail to discover. Plain ivory cream borders run across the top and bottom, giving the runner a clean, finished edge.

This is not a quiet rug. The crimson and teal palette is bold, festive, and unmistakably Isparta — one of the most celebrated rug-weaving traditions in all of Turkey.

✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN

The dense all-over scrolling vine and floral field of this rug belongs to a tradition that stretches back centuries in Anatolian weaving — a garden brought indoors, rendered knot by knot across the full surface of the loom. In the Isparta tradition, this dense, all-over composition was a weaver's way of filling her home with life, color, and the quiet abundance of a garden in perpetual bloom.

The crimson field gives this garden its warmth and energy. Red was the most prestigious of dye colors in Turkish rug weaving — the most skilled to achieve, the most expensive to maintain. A crimson all-over field runner like this one was a statement of the weaver's pride and her household's abundance.

Knotted decades ago, cut and finished with care, this runner is ready to bring that same warmth and energy into your hallway, staircase, or kitchen.
