✦ ABOUT THIS RUG
This vintage Turkish rug comes from Isparta, a region in southwestern Anatolia with a long-standing tradition of fine hand-knotted wool carpets, often woven in Oushak-influenced medallion layouts. The design centers on a rounded floral medallion with a small rosette heart, rendered in dusty rose and teal green, set against a warm ivory-cream field and framed by a wide floral border in dusty rose and slate blue. Unlike heavily sun-bleached vintage pieces, this rug has kept much of its original color depth — a rich, layered palette that suits a romantic gothic-victorian room just as naturally as a mid-century one. Decades of gentle use have softened the wool pile while preserving its body and color, with only light, even wear consistent with its age. As with every SFA Trading area rug, it has been cleaned, restored, and edge-secured, so it arrives structurally sound and ready to use.

✦ THE STORY BEHIND THIS RUG
This rug was woven by a woman.
Not in a factory. Not by machine. But by hand — on a loom, at home, in a village in Anatolia. Decades ago, Turkish women wove these rugs either to furnish their own homes or to contribute to the family's income. Each pattern was chosen by the weaver herself, each knot tied with her own hands. No two rugs were ever identical, because no two women wove the same way.
We source these rugs directly from old homes and private collectors across Turkey — places where these pieces have rested for 40, 50, sometimes 60 years. When we find one, it begins a journey before it reaches you.
First, we shake out decades of dust. Then we carefully shear the pile — what we call "hav" in Turkish — to bring the surface back to an even, clean finish. The rug is then washed and goes through a series of restoration steps. Finally, the edges are hand-stitched to ensure it arrives in your home structurally sound and ready to use.
What you receive is not just a rug. It is a one-of-a-kind textile that survived decades, was made by someone's hands, and was carefully prepared to live another chapter — in your home.
You will never find another exactly like it.
✦ THE MEANING BEHIND THE PATTERN
In Anatolian weaving tradition, the medallion is one of the oldest and most enduring motifs — often read as a symbol of the sun, of wholeness, or of the home itself, radiating outward from a single center point like a garden in bloom. Rendered here in soft dusty rose with a cool teal-green heart, the medallion was frequently chosen by the weaver to represent balance between elements — warmth and calm, strength and softness — a quiet reflection of the household she wove for. For the woman who tied these knots, this rich, deliberate colorway may have marked a special piece, worked with dyes she was proud of, in a pattern passed down through her family's weaving tradition. When this rug enters your home, it carries that same intention forward: a centered, grounding presence in a room, and a tangible link to a craft and a person from another time and place. It is a small piece of continuity — history, care, and meaning, made wearable underfoot.
🧼 CARE & CLEANING
Vacuum gently and regularly, avoiding the beater bar/rotating brush on the pile. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub. For deeper cleaning, we recommend professional wool rug cleaning rather than home washing or steam cleaners, since vintage natural dyes can be sensitive to heat and moisture. Rotate the rug occasionally for even wear and color retention, and keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight. A rug pad is recommended to prevent slipping and extend the life of the piece.

Patrick Demestre.”
